Mr. Vernon H. "Peazer" Overley, 89 of Hiiltop, passed away Saturday evening, September 5, 2020 in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center at Maysville after a brief illness. He was born at Tea Run near Hilltop, Kentucky on March 9, 1931 to the late Oral E. and Carrie B. (Hazelrigg) Overley.
Peazer was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Hilltop Christian Church, Favorite Lodge No. 581, retired member of the Ewing Fire Department, one of the original organizers of the Fleming County Rescue Squad and for over 19 years was the meter reader for the Western-Fleming Water District. He also farmed and operated a trucking company hauling coal, water and canned milk. He also hauled for Southern States and did welding and bulldozer work.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell Overley and Earl Glen Overley.
Survivors include his wife, Luwana McKee Overley who he married May 26, 1954. One daughter Carol J. Overley Hughes and her husband Jackie of Ewing, two granddaughters, Candi Adamson of Maysville and Johna Hughes (Jeff Hull) of May's Lick, Kentucky. Four great-grandchildren, Sydney Adamson (Patrick Applegate), Carley Adamson, John "J.D." Adamson and Brooks Hunter Hull. One nephew Don Overley and his wife Karen. Also several other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services and masonic rites by Favorite Lodge No. 581 will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville with Sam Chanslor and Rev. Tracy Parker officiating.
Visitation at the funeral home is after 12:00 Noon Wednesday.
Burial with full military honors by the W. N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post No. 1834 will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery at Mt. Tabor.
Serving as pall bearers will be Roy Cecil Redden, Denver Jolly, Timmy Jones, Allen McFarland, Steve McFarland and Greg Hughes. Honorary pall bearers will be Donnie Richardson, Marion Jolly, Jim Jones and Leslie Lewis.
