Sterling Hord Price, 86 of Ewing, Kentucky passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio after an illness of several weeks.
He was born April 15, 1936, in Ewing to the late Hugh Martin Price and Ollie Hord Price.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Billye Price Money and Jo Price Frederick.
Sterling was a graduate of Fleming County High School, had attended Transylvania University and was a 1956 graduate of the Kentucky School of Embalming. He was a member of the Ewing Christian Church and most recently attended the Ewing Baptist Church. He was a member of the Favorite Lodge No. 581 F. & A.M. for over 50 years and was a past master. He was a member of the Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington, Kentucky for over 50 years. A former member of the Fleming County School Board and had served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Elizaville Cemetery Company for over 40 years. He had also served as Fleming County Deputy Coroner.
Sterling was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and had owned and operated Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville, Kentucky for over 62 years. He grew up working in the funeral home from the age of twelve. For many of those years the funeral home provided emergency and convalescent ambulance service to the residents of the West End of Fleming County. He also owned and operated Price Farms raising Angus cattle, tobacco, hay, corn and soybeans. He was also involved in showing Tennesse Walking Horses and participated in many area horse shows.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling and bluegrass music.
Sterling was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan and was a former member of The Committee of 101. He was a UK Wildcat basketball season ticket holder for nearly 50 years.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Ann Miller Price, two daughters, Melissa Ann Hay (Donnie Hay) and Suzanne Price Mason (DeWayne Mason) and granddaughter, Mary Kate Hay.
His children from his previous marriage: Margaret Jane Chumley, Jana Gantley, Angie Ingram and Jill Grier, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a special friend, Mike Gray, who he thought of as a son and mentored in the funeral profession.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Friday in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home with Pastor James Ray Hickerson and Brother Greg Grimes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery. Masonic rites by the Favorite Lodge No. 581 will be conducted at the cemetery.
Visitation at the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville is after 4:00 pm Thursday.
Pall bearers will be Danny Earlywine, Moochie Earlywine, Randy Jackson, Billy Cowan, Dwight Allen, Wayne Bruner, Tracy Hunt and Norm Harn.
