Patrick Eugene Price was born February 29, 1948 to the late Eugene Blake Price and Lenore Gidding Price. He was married to Shirley Justice Price, who was his loving caregiver throughout his battle with cancer. He died on September 9, 2019, surrounded by his family.
In addition to his wife, Pat is survived by his children, Eugene Blake Price II and wife Jill; Gena Price Barker and husband J.R.; Jeffrey Earlywine and wife Crystal, and Jennifer Earlywine; a sister, Elizabeth “Bibbie” Price Emmons and husband James; a brother, John C. Price and wife Connie; his grandchildren, Caroline Price, Sadie Price, Ella King, Patrick King, Lily Barker, Isaac Earlywine, Lucas Earlywine, Lea Applegate Elliott, and Robert Applegate. He was Papaw Pat to his grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Jordan Price, and a brother, Richard Bradley Price.
Pat was a 1966 graduate of Fleming County High School and remained a loyal supporter of Fleming County and its schools. He was especially supportive of Fleming County school athletics. He was the public address announcer for Fleming County basketball for 48 years and football game announcer for 44 years. He cherished watching his family members participate in sporting events, especially his grandchildren. He spoke often of teaching school at Flemingsburg Elementary for one semester after college before entering law school.
Pat was a 1971 graduate of Morehead State University and was honored to serve the University as a member of its Board of Regents for 9 years. He took pride in the University and the good it did for him, his family and Eastern Kentucky.
He was a 1974 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. He returned to Fleming County after graduation and practiced law with the firm of Suit, McCartney, Price, Price & Ruark for 45 years, until his death. He was Assistant Fleming County Attorney for 43 years, and at times throughout his practice he represented the Western Fleming Water District, the Flemingsburg-Fleming County Industrial Authority, and other public entities. He served as a Special Justice to the Kentucky Supreme Court.
He was born and raised in the Cowan Community of Fleming County and was a lifelong member of the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder most of his adult life.
Pat served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves for 10 years. He was a member of the Buffalo Trace ADD Board for over 30 years, was a member of the Fleming County Rotary Club, and was a member of the Fleming Masonic Lodge No. 112.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church in Cowan with Rev. Marvin W. Suit and Tommy Fern officiating.
Burial with full military honors by the W. N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post No. 1834 will be in the Elizaville Cemetery.
Serving as pall bearers will be James Emmons, Brad Price, Jay Emmons, J. R. Barker, Garey Harmon, Johnny Wallingford, Paul King, Terry Biddle and Mike Cameron.
Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Fleming, Mason and Bracken County Bar Associations.
Visitation at the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church in Cowan will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Patrick E. Price Scholarship Fund, C/O The M.S.U. Foundation, 121 East Second Street, Morehead, Kentucky 40351.
