James Paul "Popeye" Helton" 72 of Ewing, passed away Tuesday morning, August 27, 2019 at Baptist Health in Lexington after an illness of several weeks.
He was born November 28, 1946 in Menifee County, Kentucky to the late Strawder Hale and Mary Helton Hale.
Popeye was a retired mechanic and farmer. He had worked for Rose Farm Supply and enjoyed time with his grandchildren, antique cars, mud slings and watching drag strip races.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Tumey Helton on July 26, 2012. Raymond and Elsie "Granny" Helton who raised him and sisters Delcene Hughes, Arnetta Hale and Alverta Wells.
Survivors include three children, Dennis Helton and his wife Darlene of Paris, Kentucky. Lawrence Helton of Ewing, Kentucky and Donna Caudill and her husband James of Ewing. One sister, Grace Crouch of Owingsville, Kentucky. Five grandchildren, Savannaha Caudill, Waylon Caudill, Drew Martin, Cory Martin and Carrie Caudill. One great-grandson Jayden Caudill. An adopted granddaughter, Elizabeth "Slim" Cox of Ewing, a special nephew William Ray "Billdo" Hughes of Ewing and his grandpuppy "Sophie".
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Friday in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville with Rev. Greg Grimes officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery at Mt. Tabor.
Visitation at the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville is from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday.
Serving as Pall bearers will be Dennis Helton, Lawrence Helton, Danny Tucker, Doug Rains, Wayne Dugan and Jamie Dugan. Honorary Pall bearer will be Billdo Hughes.
