Mr. James Thomas Hughes, 87, of Cowan, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
He was the son of the late John Hughes and Ivetta Jolly Hughes.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Livingood Hughes and his children, Phyllis Mitchell and Jimmy (Alice) Hughes of Carlisle, Patty Jolly, Lisa (Buddy) Gray, Sandy (Henry) Drake and Terry (Julie) Hughes of Fleming County. Also, surviving are twenty grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, thirty great-great-grandchildren and a brother, John Ray Hughes of Fleming County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Stephens, sons-in-law, Terry (“D. D”) Jolly and Cecil Mitchell, daughter-in-law, Helen Hughes and great-grandson, Timmy (“Timbo”) Mitchell.
Thomas was a faithful member of the Pleasant Valley First Church of God in Nicholas County, where he served as a board member for several years. He was an employee of Litton Ford in Flemingsburg, a deputy sheriff of Fleming County for 5 years and was self-employed in his own garage until his retirement.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville with Brother Mike Pennington, Brother Steve Smith and Brother Jackie Anderson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. for the family and from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. for the public at the funeral home.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons and Clarence “Beaty” Mitchell.
Honorary casket bearers will be his Pleasant Valley Church Family.
